After a gap of over 20 years, there was an SMC Yacht Meet in June 2023 when 7 yachts of various sizes took part. The weather and winds were generally good and it was a very enjoyable event although there were only limited opportuntities for mountaineering.

The fleet assembled in the anchorage on Canna at the start of the week. This was quite exciting as there were a very large number of yachts already there which meant keen competition for moorings and safe anchorage. After Canna some of the yachts headed for Skye where some mountaineering, including an ascent of the Dubhs Ridge was achieved. The remaining 4 yachts went to Rum where various walking & scrambling activities took place including a traverse of Askival in "interesting" condition of thick wet mist.

After Rum, some of the yachts there headed for Skye and another attempted a day's climbing at Ardnamurchan but was thwarted by onshore winds and so headed for the bright lights of Tobermory. Others headed for Eigg to explore the climbing there.

Overall, it was an excellent week and great to visit the Small Isles & Skye and to approach the mountains by sea. Thanks to Geoff Lowe for organising the meet.
